While reading the cartoons I came to realize that the pictures are actually quite clever. The picture illustrating the woman buying clothes at a department store shows that she isn't buying them for herself but indeed for her own country. The picture depicts how consumers are spending money and how it all eventually flows back into the economy. The picture right beside the economy depicts fatty foods and how the government could possibly start a new "tax called fat taxes". This new tax would easily infuriate Americans because it's our freedom to choose whatever we want without penalty. Taxing on something like that just doesn't seem right at all. The cartoon with George Bush is pretty interesting, they discuss that over time the view on marriages have changed quite dramatically over time. In present times today, our politicians are trying to keep the law the way it is right now because they don't fully believe in same sex marriages. The final picture shows that when a person gets dressed two things can happen, a person can look at the tag and see where it came from and then the other option is the person doesn't even bother looking at the tag. For the person that does look at the tag he can examine where it came from and think about the people who actually made it. The main point of this illustration however, is that our country doesn't produce a lot of goods, instead we are using cheap labor from other countries to make products for us at a very low cost. Overall, I did enjoy reading these visual messages, it gave me a better perception on how things work and how topics currently are in todays world. I believe that these cartoons are very useful today, they give a good explanation on what currently goes on the world.
