I hated A Rose for Emily in high school, so after many years I thought my opinion would have changed. Unfortunately, I was wrong; I still hate Faulkner's short story. I cannot put my finger on exactly what makes me dislike this story so much, but I literally dread reading and writing about it. Even having to think about it for a class blogpost gives me so much discomfort I literally procrastinate until right before class. That being said, several questions pop up about the story. Why do all of these people stay in Emily's life? Obviously, she seems a bit strange at first, but there is always a sneaking suspicion that she is not mentally capable. How many secrets can be kept in such a small house with so few visitors? Her hired negro had to know what happened with her "boyfriend." Why did he continue to work with her, was he threatened or was it out of pity?
